There are some insects and rodents that get talked about more than others. The more frequently that people talk about a certain topic the more likely incorrect information is likely to be shared. Think about the telephone game you played when you were younger. You know the one where you all sit in a circle and the first person whispers a sentence to the person sitting next to them, then everyone whispers what they think they heard to the person next to them. Often by the time the message gets to the end it does not resemble the original sentence at all! That is how information about insects and rodents seems to spread. After hundreds of years of people talking about insects and rodents the statements that so many of us share as fact are actually just myths. Always Ready Pest Control wants to help break some of the myths about mice that are floating around there.

Do Mice Like to Eat Cheese?

This is one of the most common myths shared about mice. It is easy to see why this one is so widely believed though. If you leave a piece of cheese out as bait for mice they will indeed it. Mice are foragers. They will eat almost anything that they can get their tiny feet on. They are known to eat other mice if food is extremely hard to find. Yuck! If you leave a piece of cheese out for a mouse they will eat it. They would also eat many other carbohydrates, fats, and proteins though.

Do Cats Get Rid of Mice

For years it has been accepted as fact that cats will get rid of any mice problem that you may have at your house. Cats are hunters to they will catch mice if they find them but there are several reasons that you should not try this method of rodent control. The first reason that this method is not recommended is that mice can transmit diseases, parasites, and toxins to the cat and make you cat sick. A sick cat is not going to be an effective mouse hunter. The second reason is that very rarely do you only have one mouse in your house. Mice have a very fast reproductive cycle and will multiply quickly. Many times cats just cannot keep up with the amount of mice in the house.

Do Mice Live Alone?

The myth above leads us to the myth that mice like to live alone. Cartoons and movies will frequently show just one little mouse living alone in their cute little house. In reality thought mice live in groups. As stated above, they have a very fast reproductive cycle. Female mice give birth to up to 10 litters a year. Each litter will have 6 to 8 mice on average. Chances are if you see one mouse they are definitely more in your house that you have just not seen yet.

Do Mice Only Squeak

If you were to ask just about anyone what kind of sound mice make they would tell you that they squeak. This is indeed a true statement. But most people do not know that they can actually sing as well. When male mice want to impress the female mice they sing to them. Male mice even have the ability to harmonize as they sing to the female mice.
